About the Youlgrave Bangbutt Village Link

Our aim is to work cooperatively with the people of Bangbutt, encouraging them to:

* make their own decisions about what they need;
* contribute practically on projects, as needed;
* have a sense of ownership of the projects.

Each project:

* involves both men and women;
* is planned to be sustainable;
* has its own management committee of villagers;
* has training built in from the start.

We have been advised that empowering the women, through our projects, will benefit the next generation.

We are now extending our work beyond Bangbutt so that people in other villages are beginning to benefit from some of our projects.

The Link is very grateful to S.L.Y.E.O. (Sierra Leone Youth Empowerment Organisation) an NGO working in the area, for its supervision of our projects. In particular, Sammy Stober Taylor has been a constant source of advice and support. Without him we would not have made such progress.
