School and Clinic

The new school (September 2009)

Building work for the school started in February 2007. Up to March 2008 we had sent £30,000 and the school is almost complete. The building consists of 3 classrooms, an office with a store and a community hall or general work space.

August 2008 We are thrilled that the new school is at last completed and due to open in September. One of the committee members is busy raising funds and making plans to attend the opening ceremony.

Solar lights

Sammy has told us that we are part of the first group in Sierra Leone to provide solar lanterns to enable people to study at night.

Well

In operation by August 2005.

There used to be a well but it collapsed.

New well being dug.

Using the old well.

Notice their old well was uncovered and easily contaminated.

We sent money for a new one.

Our Work

Projects in Bangbutt
When the war ended, it was very clear that Bangbutt needed much more than the friendship our link had originally provided. They identified many needs, including a new well and school. Assessing these requests was difficult from so far away, and a visit to Bangbutt became a priority if our work was to go further and succeed.

In January 2005 two committee members visited Bangbutt, at their own expense to try to establish wider links, gather information and meet village people.
